ENRICHMENT COURSES
Our varied enrichment courses are designed to develop your child's many talents, skills, and interests. Students will study Art, Music, Spanish, Physical Education, Technology, and a weekly religion course called Godly Play.
Enrichment Course Overview
- Primary focus on vocabulary
- Communication: Interpersonal communication, socializing, exchanging and presenting information
- Comparing English and Spanish languages and cultures
- Cultural practices and perspectives from Spanish-speaking countries
- Active learning with songs, poems, games and writing
The STEM smart lab is a 21st century learning center. Kindergarten-5th grade students will explore circuitry, communication and digital arts,environmental and manufacturing technology, mechanics and structures,robotics, scientific data and analysis, and software engineering. Students will make career connections and extend core content learning in the lab. The Smart Lab programs engage all learners in a hands-on project based learning approach in which STEM is seamlessly integrated. Learning is highly personalized and empowers students to shape their learning to meet their individual interests, abilities, and learning preferences.
- Preschool: Learning to sing, dance and actively enjoy music. Also learning to perform on risers for programs.
- Elementary: Utilizes Kodaly & Orff methods of Music Education.
- Kindergarten: Learning to match pitch and keep a steady beat.
- First Grade: Begin to explore solfege and learn to identify music symbols.
- Second Grade: Learn the process of reading music and use this process to sing and play instruments.
- Third Grade: Learn the Recorder and work on solo and ensemble singing.
- Fourth and Fifth Grade: Examine more difficult facets of reading and writing music and begin to compose their own music.
- St. John’s Choir: Comprised of students in grades 3 through 5. The Choir will learn the intricacies of singing within a choir and perform weekly during chapel and within the community throughout the year.
- Preschool through Second Grade: Strong emphasis on the development of motor skills and movement concepts including throwing, catching, running, and jumping.
- Third through Fifth Grade: Building on the fundamental skills already developed, students practice and play more sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, track and field activities, pickleball and tennis.
- All students participate in library time with stories, reading, education and research.
- Students begin checking out books in PK4.
- Older students may use the online database for books to use to research for school projects.
- Uses the internationally acclaimed curriculum, “Godly Play,” a Montessori style spiritual formation.
- Children are taught a bible story then given time and tools to reflect and learn to apply biblical teachings to their lives.
- Ecumenical in nature, Godly play is used by multiple denominations like Baptist, Methodist, Church of Christ, Catholics, Episcopalians, Presbyterians and more.
- PK4 through First Grade: Experiential, collaborative art with an emphasis on basic elements of art such as line, shape, color and texture.
- Second through Fifth Grade: Begin to study art history and develop skills with new mediums and tools. Also learn more advanced elements of art like space, form, value and color theory.
